Main Water Shut-Off Valve-Is Where?

At Certified Plumbing Company, maybe my thinking is skewed.  Maybe it’s because I’m in the industry and I work on or replace them.  But quite frankly I am kind of blown away at how many homeowners don’t know where the main water shut off valve is located.  To me this is the most important knowledge I would need to know when owning or renting a home.  The property damage that could be prevented in the time it takes to try and located this shut off valve, or the time it takes to call a plumber or the Water Dept, and the time it takes for them to get to your property could be enormous.

What is just as important is the shut off valves to each of your fixtures.  The calls that come in are when the homeowner is frantic, the toilet is overflowing and the shut off valve to the toilet isn’t shutting off or the water heater is flooding the lower level and that shut off valve isn’t working.  The calls come in week after week.

As a plumber in the industry it is our responsibility to keep your home sanitarily safe and water tight at all times.  In some regards we have dropped the ball on this issue.  We will be asking every customer on their service call if they would like us to tag the shut off valves in the basement and to check the shut off to all their fixtures at no charge.

If you are one that knows the location of the main water shut off valve please take the time to show the rest of the family its location.  You just never know.

Call us at 303-795-7498 and we will be glad to help!
