Leaking Pipes on Vacation

Water leaks at home while you’re gone - costly!

If you’re leaving town this winter, be sure to turn off your water. Yeah, yeah, we know what you’re thinking: “Nothing’s going to happen to me. I’m luckier than a leprechaun with a four-leaf clover in his pocket and horseshoe hanging from his nose.” Well, listen to this Certified Plumbing Company story, and see if it doesn’t change your mind.

A few years ago, a client of ours, Shirley, was taking off for the winter, fleeing the bitter Denver cold and heading straight for the beach. (Ah, the beach.) Thing is, though, she forgot to shut off her water.

In the spring, Shirley’s sister, Beth, who was checking up on the property regularly, called us, panic-stricken: her sister’s house, she told us, had flooded. So we went to check it out, and here’s what we found: the water in the pipes, which had frozen during the winter, had started to thaw. And while this normally wouldn’t be a big deal, there was a leak in one of Shirley’s pipes, and the water had found it.

If only Shirley had called us in advance. We could have fixed her pipe, saved her thousands of dollars, and ensured that all those irreplaceable personal items were never lost.

So before you leave town, give us a call at 303-795-7498. We’ll explain the proper steps for winterization and make sure your property stays in tip-top condition while you’re off having fun.

 Until next time,

The Littleton plumbing professionals, Certified Plumbing Company 303-795-7498
